Just in time for the Democratic National Convention, Colorado-based Sustainable Cards, producer of the first wooden hotel cards, along with manufacturer CPI Card Group, have donated 70,000 biodegradable cards to 90 Denver area hotels that use plastic key cards.
Wooden key cards have been used for about seven years in Europe. They have proven to be just as durable as plastic key cards. Unlike plastic cards, however, wood is renewable and biodegradable. Hotels and resorts can reduce plastic waste, which contributes to more than 13,000 tons of waste each year.
Greg Hartmann, president and chief executive of Sustainable Cards, said his company’s mission is to “reduce non-biodegradable card waste to zero during the convention and throughout the year by encouraging the use of our eco-friendly wood cards in every hotel in America.”
The Democratic National Convention will be held Augst 25-28 at the Pepsi Center. If you do plan on going to the Convention and will be staying at one of the area hotels with the wooden key cards, Sustainable Cards wants your feedback. You can submit it here.
