Rebirth in Mumbai: the Taj Mahal hotel will reopen next week

It was only a few weeks ago, November 26, when those awful pictures of Mumbai’s Taj Mahal Hotel under attack shocked the world.

Now, Taj Hotels has announced, amazingly that they will reopen rooms in the tower section of the hotel December 21, at 7pm. (Most of the worst damage was in the older main wing of the hotel, but nonetheless, this is a surprising achievement in such a short time.)

Raymond Bickson, Taj Hotels’  Managing Director and CEO stated:

“We dedicate our reopening to the city of Mumbai as affirmation of the values of courage, resilience and dignity.”

To reopen the Taj Tower wing with such speed and attention to detail shows our resolve to commemorate all the innocent and brave people who lost their lives during the recent attacks. In their honor, the Taj will shine again in all its brilliance.”

The re-opening of the Taj Hotel is not just a business decision to benefit the company.  Hundreds of employees will be able to return to work. In addition, as the hotel has been a symbol of pride and and one of the most loved buildings in the city, its reopening means a great deal. Besides simply making a statement that the terrorists haven’t “won.”

Beyond just reopening the hotel, Taj Hotels has started a “Public Service Welfare Trust”  to provide relief for victims and their families. Those interested in donating can get further information from [email protected]
