Why are travel bloggers upbeat about 2009?

The Bloggers Summit at PhoCusWright (Hollywood 2008) brought together some of the top international bloggers. During the conference they discussed nuts and bolts topics about how they approach blogging, ways to increase readership, linking protocols, editorial responsibilities, the bloggers voice and what they expect the future to bring.

The group of world travel bloggers ranging from content-filled bloggers such as Bootsnall.com and GoNomad.com to travel advice and inside information blogs like Hasbrouck.org and travolution.com all had very positive views of this coming year in travel.

At a dinner with almost a dozen bloggers, the feeling was, “Damn the economy, we’re going to double our income and double our influence.”

It’s a new world out there. While the news is filled with almost daily reports of cutbacks in traditional media and projections of dire advertising revenues for newspapers, magazines and broadcast media, the Internet is still growing and growing.

Bloggers certainly aren’t looking forward to doom and gloom.
